Five years ago I had never considered working for Brains. Today I’m proud to say I work for one of the most exciting and innovative food & beverage providers in Wales. They have invested heavily in hotels and inns, and it was this that attracted me. Coming to Brains with many years hotel experience it is great to see fresh ideas and excellent marketing opportunities.

They really capture the sprit of Wales in everything they do. I was made to feel so welcome by everyone. My first day was a succession of visits from support staff and all offered help and assistance. From day one I felt not just part of a team, but a valued part!

At all levels the induction process was excellent – the best I have ever had in 25 years.

What I enjoy about the hospitality industry, and particularly in hotels, is that no two days are the same. What I always remember is that in most cases, when people come to us, they do so for pleasure. Even the business travellers who spend most nights away from home can be made to feel special and that they are staying with a company who promotes individuality and not some corporate chain.

So what’s a typical day? We don’t have them in hotels. There are so many sides to our operation. Bar trade for regulars and passing people who just pop in; business meetings and conferences that require perfect organisation; hotel guests that regularly stay and get to know us well; or long term residents for whom we try to make their time away from home as pleasant as possible. But it’s the celebrations that I enjoy the most. Being part of someone’s special day from start to finish is both rewarding and pleasing.

I was told many years ago that this industry is not just a job it a way of life. That is true. It is hard and hours can be long but the feeling of achievement is fantastic and the rewards are great. In my short time with Brains those feelings have only increased and I am very proud to be part of something special.
