Manager, Watermill

I awake at 7.30am to a gloriously sunny day. The weather forecast predicts that it will be fine and sunny all day. That only means one thing - lots of people heading towards Ogmore by Sea and lots of passing trade for the Watermill. It’s going to be a busy day!

A few minor adjustments need to be made to the staff rotas as the tide is due in at 2.30pm, which means everyone off the beach and heading towards us for a bite to eat and a refreshing drink in our outside area. The chefs start arriving at 9am and the head chef informs them that the prep levels have to be huge!

Three hours into service and the place is buzzing, with every table full inside and out. The food is flying out the kitchen but the staff take it in their stride – they’re used to busy days.

By 9 pm things are starting to slow down. Most of the customers have now gone so a major tidy up is taking place. Some of the team are starting to feel tired but keep going and are keen to hear today’s incentive winners.

A quick tally of today’s total for meals prepared show we have beaten the record hands down. The team is ecstatic as they have been part of this. Their loyalty cards will be rewarded as a thanks.

The team finish cleaning down and head home. I lock the doors and grab a cup of tea! It’s been a busy but good day. Customers arrived happy and left happy, and the staff the same. As for me, it was just another day at the Watermill and I will do it all again tomorrow!
