The Boathouse
Managers, Boathouse

No two days in any pub are quite the same. They always bring new and exciting challenges and some unexpected challenges too. Our pub is somewhat different and it could be said that we are three business rolled into one, working in harmony with each other. We’ve got a bar area where you can relax and enjoy a cool beer, a dining area offering great food and a function suite for many occasions.

Typically our day kicks off with the general organisation of the pub. Ensuring all bars are stocked, function rooms laid and well presented, along with a walk around the building making sure everything is looking as it should and in working order. We try to take the view of a customer, asking for example if the bar area is too warm or too cold and is the music at a suitable level.

After we are confident that the pub is ready to welcome customers we then liaise with our kitchen team, ensuring all deliveries have arrived and all our daily specials for our menu are underway and ready for service. When our front of house team arrive a briefing session is held when we discuss things like menu changes and any special requirements that have been requested by our guests prior to their arrival.

We are very lucky in our business to be able to host catering in our function suite. Our function suite is used for everything from board meetings to Christenings to Wedding receptions. Wedding’s are the most rewarding as we can spend up to a year discussing the Bride and Groom's special day. The last month prior to their wedding is when we set about arranging the finer details such as table planning, menu planning, guest arrival and running order. It’s great when the day arrives. Once you get through the meal, the speeches and the cutting of the cake, everyone relaxes and the party gets into full swing. At the end of the evening, after everybody has left, we can rest in the knowledge that everything has gone to plan and turn the lights off for another day.

Whoever thought running a pub was putting ice and lemon on the bar and unlocking the front door? Not quite! It’s far more exciting than that!
