The Rose and Crown Public House can be found nestling in the charming historic village of Nottage, just minutes from the coast at Porthcawl, and was originally one of 5 public houses. The pub was formed from two old cottages, Rose cottage and Crown cottage, the latter being the original alehouse and the last to be licensed in the Bridgend area. It was run by a Mrs Mabel Roberts who reputedly boasted her pints were the best in the area and as a stout member of the community, never left Nottage.

"The staff were very friendly and the food was great. The service was amazing."

Nottage itself is a quaint little village characterised by stone cottages and old inns, and has deep historic roots; local names such as Sker and Tuskar are both of Viking origin. Groes Cottage is believed to stand on the site of the original village cross, later becoming the shop and post office. At the end of the green was a wall known as labourers wall, where the unemployed men would gather to await work. Nottage court, a large house and ground set behind a stone wall was originally one of the wheat farms administered by the monks from nearby Margam Abbey. It was also said to have housed Anne Boleyn before her marriage to Henry VIII who sold the house to Sir Rice Mansell in 1540. The house's original beams and some stone mouldings can still be seen today.

"Beautiful food, good menu choices, clean facilities, fantastic staff, lovely restaurant."

We are in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2012

Out of approximately 54,000 pubs in Britain, only 4,500 of the finest outlets for cask beer are chosen to be included in the Good Beer Guide. It is a remarkable achievement for the Rose & Crown to have earned a place in the Guide and speaks volumes for the quality of our beer that local CAMRA members have selected us for inclusion.
