The latest beer on the bar in the Duke of Wellington has been developed and brewed by the team working at the Cardiff pub.
As winner of Brains’ Cask Ale Pub of the Year, staff were invited to brew their own beer at the Brains Craft Brewery. The result was Give It Some Welly! – an Irish style red ale, inspired by the Duke of Wellington himself.
Pub staff brewed the beer in rotation, including the manager Tori and assistant manager Matt – who both appear on the pump clip.
Tori Small, manager, said: "The Duke of Wellington was an Irishman so an Irish style ale seemed the obvious choice. It was great to be able to brew with Bill and better understand the brewing process. We’re looking forward to serving a beer we’ve all played a part in creating."
Bill Dobson, head brewer at Brains, added: "The Duke of Wellington is renowned for its cask and craft beers so we were keen that Tori and the team experience a brew day. I’m sure Give It Some Welly! will sell out very quickly."
The beer will be sold in 30 Brains pubs, and launched at the Duke of Wellington pub on Thursday 1st May at 6pm.

An Irish style Red ale brewed in collaboration with the team from the Duke of Wellington pub in Cardiff, Brains’ current Cask Ale Pub of the Year. Pale Ale malt and roast barley combine to create a deep copper-red coloured ale with sweet fruity aromas of red berries and citrus, balanced with hints of caramel, roast malt and a refreshingly dry bitter finish.
