The Smoking Dog in Malmesbury enjoyed its best ever Beer and Sausage Festival. The bank holiday event (27 – 31st May) attracted record numbers, selling more pints and more sausages than ever before.
Now in its 16th year the festival has become something of an institution, as manager Martin Bridge explains: "It has always been a popular event and it just keeps getting bigger. But this year even we were taken aback by the turnout. I think its success lies in its simplicity; great beer, quality food and a fantastic atmosphere."
Festival goers enjoyed a selection of 35 cask ales, five scrumpy ciders and 15 different types of sausages. The sausages, including the specially made ‘Smoking Dog’ sausage, are all hand-made by local family butcher Leonard Walker. And this year they proved so popular that extra were made and delivered on Sunday morning, taking the total amount sold to 4,000.
