Work starts today (Monday 16th July) on a six week refurbishment of the Smiths Arms in Llangenech; marking the return of the village pub to the community.
Simon Griffiths and his partner Victoria Davies have taken on the Brains tenancy on the outskirts of Llanelli and plan to transform it into a welcoming Welsh tavern, serving great quality food and real ale.
The development includes major changes to the exterior (artist’s impression left) and interior, plus a change of name. Simon explains: "We’ve got big plans for the pub and it will have a very different look and feel – which is why we made the decision rename the pub. We’ve got some hard work ahead of us but we’re really excited at the prospect of reopening and look forward to welcoming customers old and new."
Richard Davies, Sales and Marketing Director at Brains, said: "We’ve always know that the site has potential. It’s in a great location, just off the M4, and is in a lovely setting overlooking open fields. Simon and Victoria are experienced pub operators and we wish them every success at the Tafarn Morlais."
Original features will be opened up in the refurbishment, such as the inglenook fireplace, creating a warm and comfortable pub, but some contemporary touches will also be introduced. The size and capacity of the kitchen is set to increase as Simon and Victoria plan to launch a new menu. And in the large garden a new decked area is being introduced for outdoor drinking and dining.
The Tafarn Morlais is expected to open at the end of August.
