Cardiff pub raises more than £12,000

Three cancer charities have benefitted from a mammoth fundraising exercise organised by a Cardiff pub landlord. The Three Horseshoes in Gabalfa, managed by Carl Stephens, raised a total of £12,326 which will be split between Cancer Research Wales, Velindre Hospital and George Thomas Hospice.

Carl and his team held various events at the pub, including quiz nights, auctions and live music. Other local pubs and clubs supported the effort, including the Rompney Castle, the Retreat, the Hollybush, the New Inn, and St Joseph’s Rugby Club.

Over the years the pub has raised thousands for local causes. Carl explains: "We’ve always been a big supporter of local charities, and over the years have raised thousands. But we couldn’t have done it without our customers, who always give so generously."

Nicky Piper, fundraising and events officer for the George Thomas Hospice, said: "We are extremely thankful to Carl, his team, and everyone else who has helped fundraise. It’s a huge amount and will help make a difference to cancer patients and their families."
