Wales Rugby Legend Boosts Wooden Spoon Appeal
When brewer and Welsh Rugby Union shirt sponsor SA Brain and Co Ltd appointed former Wales and British Lions scrum half Rob Jones as brand ambassador, they weren’t banking on him bringing in so much cash for charity. Not only has he helped promote the Brains brand within and beyond the Principality, his last two ambassadorial outings have raked in more than £2,000 for rugby’s charity Wooden Spoon.
In January Rob ventured to the popular tourist attraction Bodmin Jail to introduce customers to Wales’ finest ale. More than 90 customers at the converted civil and naval prison listened to tales from Rob’s highly successful rugby career and found out who he thinks will claim the Six Nations title. A raffle and the auction of a signed Wales rugby shirt subsequently brought in £740 for Brains’ official charity.
This month Rob was guest of honour at the Victoria Hotel, Menai Bridge on Anglesey. Rob acted as after dinner speaker for 75 guests and led another auction and raffle. Thanks to generous contributions from the hotel’s customers, Wooden Spoon benefited from a further £1,265.
Richard Davies, Sales and Marketing Director at Brains said: "Rob was recruited to help us leverage our work with the WRU and he has done a fantastic job. The added bonus has been the amount he has helped us raise for our charity Wooden Spoon."
