Wooden Spoon became Brains' main charity in 2006. Since then the company has held various events in a bid to raise money for the disadvantaged children and young people it supports.
To date fundraising efforts have included two 'Longest Pass' events, which saw employees passing a rugby ball to one another between Cardiff and Paris and again between Cardiff and Nantes; Welsh Rugby themed auctions and raffles; in-house pub quiz nights and even a hearty donation from a sausage and mash dish on our pub menus.
Wooden Spoon is rugby’s charity raising funds for socially, mentally and physically disadvantaged children and young people. It was founded in 1983 when England was awarded the Wooden Spoon in the 5 Nations championship. Wooden Spoon – or ‘Spoon’ to its members – operates throughout 41 regions in the UK and enjoys the support of over 10,000 social members in the UK and Ireland. Currently raising over £1 million annually, Spoon enjoys the support of many great names of rugby, including Martin Johnson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Gareth Edwards, Gavin Hastings, Jason Leonard and Willie John McBride as well as Royal Patron, HRH The Prince Royal.
